Dear Editor:

Recently, after the Secret Service car crash at the White House, the new head of the Secret Service said that it was routine to recycle the White House surveillance tapes 72 hours after they were taken. He said this may be why one of the crash tapes was missing. Ridiculous! If tapes that contain important information are not retained until it is clear their content is not likely to be needed, why record tapes at all?

Sincerely yours,
